High school students working with clay during a special art class

Our CALE High School students recently participated in a clay workshop led by Columbia College Professor Bo Bedilion. During this hands-on experience, students learned about alebrijes — vibrant, imaginative creatures rooted in Mexican folk art — and then created their own original designs.

These meaningful opportunities don’t happen by accident. Dr. Sarah Hairston, Executive Director of CALE Higher Education, has been intentional about bringing rich, real-world learning experiences to our high school students, connecting them with experts and creative disciplines beyond the traditional classroom.

At CALE, when students create rather than simply consume, learning becomes lasting — nurturing thoughtful thinkers and confident creators.
